Foster Mother to many of the Bremen
built U boats. Owner of a Bremen coffee house popular with U
boat crews, she wore a necklace adorned with models of all the
U boats she adopted, including U 869. |

At a rather Spartan dinner, the
Deschimag representative says a few words to the assembled guests
and crew. "Mother" Rosiefski sits on his left, next
to Kptlt. Neuerburg. |

Aerial view of U 234 after surrendering
to U.S. forces at wars end. U 234 was the same type of U boat
as U 869 and had the same late war modifications. This photo
clearly shows the hour glass shape of the quick diving hull and
the schnorkel air mast. |

Kptlt. Neuerburg. Far right, I.W.O. Brandt.
Note: the four barreled Vierling anti aircraft gun has been removed
from the wintergarden in preparation for the new single 37mm
quick firing gun. (see Comm 4) |

Another good view of the wintergarden.
The two twin 20mm gun mounts can be seen on the conning tower.
Kptlt Neuerburg is in the center; L.I. Kessler is second from
the right. |

Crewmen on the bow of U869. The
crewman in the center is sitting on the housing for the magnetic
compass. The Olympic rings are mounted on the face of the conning
tower. |
|

Because Kptlt Neuerburg was in the
Naval Academy class of 1936, (the year the Olympics were held
in Berlin) he has the Olympic rings mounted to the conning tower
of his boat. The large circular ring above the conning tower
is a radio direction finder. |

whilst training. I.W.O. Brandt is ion the center of the picture.
A megaphone is directly in front of him. The compass repeater
is in front of the sailor with the knit watch cap on and the
officer to the far left is leaning up against the UZO or surface
torpedo aiming device. |
